As graphic artist Ronald Ceuppens (° 1970 Mechelen) is mainly inspired by nature.  He collects natural prints, impressions or just fun objects during walks in the fields in the surroundings of his workshop, the mountains or by strolling in the city.  His workshop in Zemst is situated in the old farm of his grandmother and represents a haven of peace.  Material and visual reminiscences of his experience of nature and landscape are transformed to vegetal and organic fragments in various shapes, lines and colors.

Sketches, drawings and accidental findings (as there are a series of antique topographic maps, pages of an old encyclopedia) represent the base of his sober style which refers strongly to the collage techniques. By archiving and collecting prints of nature and landscape Ronald Ceuppens sketches in his work the correlation between present and past. He refers to the things we remember and the things we forget and searches for the grounds why we forget some stories and remember every detail of others.  He creates an imaginary world, harmonious, modest and of a particular subtlety.

Although colors and spotted structures are becoming more prominent in his recent works, we can still perceive figurative elements such as plants and flowers, elaborated in a linear style.   Etchings of Ceuppens lead us to a still world marked by melancholy and poetry. Each of work is a unique moment in time, a fragment of silence. (His etchings always come out in limited editions).  These works of art tell a story of the present and the past.

The complete works of Ronald Ceuppens can be described in three words: simplicity – purity – tranquility and are technically executed in a perfect manner.  One can identify the perfect balance between ability and feeling, between valuable and timeless.

Ronald Ceuppens has won many awards and is praised both nationally and internationally.  His works are incorporated in various galleries and private collections both in Belgium and abroad.
